Sentinel Capital

We are Sentinel Capital, llc, a family-owned investment group from Ostrava, Czechia.

Sentinel means guardian, which is the foundation of our investment philosophy. This is grounded in the long-term ownership of assets and companies owned with a conservative approach to risk.

Our mission is to strengthen Czech industry and to contribute to the companies owned in order to enable them to grow steadily to the position of not only European but globally operating companies.

We always invest in a way that protects the assets entrusted to us and ensures their long-term growth.

Philosophy 

Our investment philosophy is to find opportunities that promise financially attractive, long-term returns while taking limited risks. We always strive to avoid permanent loss of capital in the first place, so we focus on risk management rather than maximising short-term returns.

We invest with the intention of long-term ownership so that we can support the companies in our portfolio in their further growth without the risk of excessive debt.

Where
We Invest

We invest in high quality assets, especially in private equity, and in shares of publicly traded companies. To a lesser extent, we also invest in industrial real estate and venture capital.

We believe that attractive long-term returns reflect the internal quality of the companies we invest in, so we always prefer to invest in exceptional businesses at fair prices. We aim at those that:

  • Have a long-term sustainable competitive advantage, proven long-term profitability and above-average return on invested capital, and
  • Operate in promising sectors with expectations for positive prospects as well as organic growth opportunities.

Jaké investiční příležitosti vyhledáváme

Private equity:

  • od 250 mil. Kč hodnoty podniku,
  • společnost disponující vlastním produktovým portfoliem,
  • diferencovatelný produkt (nikoliv komoditního charakteru),
  • exportní orientace podniku,
  • opakovaná výroba (nikoliv dodávky technologicky náročných celků či zakázková výroba),
  • podnikání mimo segment veřejných zakázek,
  • široká dodavatelská a zejména zákaznická diverzifikace, 
  • existence bariér vstupu do odvětví,
  • dlouhodobě udržitelná konkurenční výhoda.

Real estate:

  • od 100 mil. Kč hodnoty nemovitostí,
  • industriálního charakteru (výroba, sklad, logistika),
  • komerční nemovitosti nejlépe s diverzifikovaným portfoliem nájemců, nebo s kreditně silným nájemcem, případně s jištěním mateřské společnosti,
  • primárně „A“ kvalita, tedy relativně nová nemovitost v dobrém technickém stavu,
  • s nájemním kontraktem alespoň na období následujících 5 let, preferovaně až k 10 letům,
  • se širokou využitelností,
  • oblíbeným formátem jsou transakce v modelu sale and leaseback,
  • v perspektivních lokalitách ČR a SR.

A major European manufacturer of automated fare collection systems for public transport. Our devices handle tens of millions of passengers daily in more than 40 countries around the world. Custom electronics manufacturing for demanding industries also plays an increasingly important role in the company’s activities. The company’s revenues approach 40 mil EUR.

Our asset management company invest our own capital as well as that of several hundred investors who have trusted the company with their savings for more than 30 years. The open-end Global mutual fund invests in selected stocks on U.S. exchanges. The Real Estate Qualified Investor Fund focuses on industrial real estate with long-term tenants and stable returns. The new ETF mutual fund INDEXIT offers the possibility of long-term passive appreciation of invested funds. Assets under management amount to 50 mil EUR.

  • TEDOM: production and service of combined heat and power units, also an electricity and natural gas distribution company. 
  • 2JCP: manufacture of equipment for gas-fired power plants and modern low-emission power generation. 
  • Rockfin: development and production of oil and fuel systems for turbines, generators and compressors. 
Minority stake in a company majority owned by the Prosperita Group. 
  • ENERGOAQUA: a manufacturer and distributor of energy media and services 
This group of companies has revenues of 500 mil EUR.
